The Polytechnic allocates 10% of its places, per course, and per subject, to candidates defined as mature students.

Definition

The Polytechnic takes a mature student to be anyone who has not come through the system in the regular mode: the regular route being taken as direct entry to the Advanced/Diploma courses from S5.

• Mature students must have more than four years outside of the school system since they finished secondary five. They can also be those who when enrolling on the Polytechnic course begin their fifth year in the post secondary cycle of education. OR

• Part-time students following subject(s) short of a full-time course.

OR

• Students who apply from other post-secondary institutions for a full-time course.

Entry Criteria

Mature students qualify for entry if they have the prerequisite IGCSE level for the full-time courses. If the Polytechnic can accommodate a smaller number of students than those who qualify for entry, then those with the best grades for the available places will be selected.

Depending on how dated the grades/IGCSE level qualification of the applicant is, the applicant’s C.V. may be taken into consideration and he/she may be required to sit an entrance test and attend an interview.

Special Cases

A time-barring policy exists for students who have been expelled, or has had to resign, from a post-secondary institution on account of misbehaviour. A period of two years should elapse before the student is eligible to apply for subjects / courses at the Seychelles Polytechnic.

Polytechnic students who are expelled, or resign, from a particular course on account of academic difficulty are time-barred for a period of two years before they can apply to rejoin that particular course (or even apply for subject(s) falling within the ambit of that course).

Polytechnic students who are expelled, or resign, from a particular course on account of academic difficulty are free to apply to other courses of the Polytechnic thereafter.

Fees and Allowance

Mature students qualify for an allowance of SR 1800 per month.
